  可以说black beauty经历的事实在是太多了，比如幼年时受到良好的教育，成年后套上笼头，受伤后被抛卖，老年后被好心人买回。这一辈子，经历了好主人，也有坏主力；有乐，更有苦。被卖给一个贵族时，贵族酒驾，导致马伤人亡；被卖去当出租马时，出租人豪不怜惜马力，使命鞭打；被当作苦力马时，主力一直往身上压重担，直至压垮倒地；直至老年，身体备受摧残，只能沦为劣质马。 听过、见过的故事就更多了，同伴Ginger的过往被主人欺负压榨的故事，马匹的马尾被切除仅仅是为了时尚，老战马回忆战场的经历，拉煤马Rory每日在生死线上苦苦挣扎……种种这些，其实何尝不是底层人们的命运，一切都是身不由己！

  整本书讲述的是“black beauty”这匹马的故事，以马为第一视角来叙述马一生的事情。其实完全可以把这区马换成一个人来讲，一辈子经历了太多事情，命运坎坷崎岖。很多时候，事件和命运都是身不由己，即使自己再努力，表现的再好，但依然无法摆脱被人操控的命运。“black beauty”被转手了很多次，最后幸运地回到了认识的人手上，算是有个不错的晚年了，但其他马匹就没这么幸运了！
