这本书讲述的是森林中长大的男孩的遭遇,通过他的遭遇来讲述人心向善,以及人在经历各种磨难之后的成长。男孩从小被狼群长大,认狼为父母,在森林中无忧无虑的生活,但不幸的是,这种生活有一天被虎王给打破了。  
虎王说男孩属于人类,人类必将会给森林带来灾难,因此想把男孩击杀。狼群经过讨论之后,依然决定保护男孩,只是需要男孩离开森林。男孩无奈只能离开狼群,准备离开森林,离开过程中遇到了熊,并在一起生活。  
他以为熊会是他的朋友,但没想到最后熊也劝他离开森林。伤心之余只能再次出走,出走过程中被猴群抓住。猴王开始蛊惑他去获取火种统治森林,并告知了狼王被虎王袭杀的消息。  
男孩愤怒和伤心之余,便去人类村庄获取了火种,燃烧了森林。但没想到,回到森林时。曾经的亲朋好友,面对面对他时只有恐惧的表情和疏远的态度。  
最终男孩在亲情、友情的感化下放弃火种,但也面临虎王的威胁。这时,男孩曾经的亲人朋友,狼群和熊都站在男孩子一面,共同抵抗虎王。最终,男孩通过技巧将虎王击杀。  
在这整个过程中,男孩的心里经历了各种变化,首先是被虎王驱离自己熟悉的环境,然后以为被朋友和亲戚所背叛,再然后是听闻自己的养父狼王被杀,被愤怒所驱使,然后去获取火种,想要证明自己。

讲述的是在森林中出现了一个人类小孩,而这个人类小孩是由狼来进行抚养长大的。从这个角度引出整篇故事。

    讲述的是丛林中因为缺少雨水而变得非常干旱,现在只剩下一个小水池,而所有的动物都要从这小水池里面获得饮水。现在面临的一个局势就是所有的动物,不管是肉食者还是猎食者,他们都在这里集合想要获取水源。自然而然就会有些冲突,但是森林法则之一water truch就是饮水的时候是必须保持和平。

    原文:Bagheera watched all this with a full heart. He knew Akela to be stern, yes, but he also knew that Akela was merely trying to protect the man-cub.

    Others joined in as Akela watched the river. Suddenly, the wind changed and the sky grew darker. Akela's hackles[插图] rose ever so slightly. Bagheera lifted his head, noticing the vultures[插图] flying above. His entire posture shifted, muscles tightening, ears back. Something was wrong.

    A young buck froze midgulp, mouth hanging open. He stared, terrified, at a shadowy shape ontop of a nearby rock.

Shere Khan虎王与狼群产生了矛盾,矛盾原因在于狼孩是人类,虎王认为森林中不允许人类存在,而狼群把他当作自己的子女看待。

讲述的是男孩在森林中被虎王排斥,为了自己和狼群的安危,所以他只能离开森林。离开森林时,遇到虎王的追杀。然后又遇到泥石流自然灾害,几经波折之下,狼孩终于离开了森林,但也迷了路。茫然四顾,周边没有一个认识的人,熟人都不知在何方。

    这章节讲述的是男孩迫于虎王的压力需要离开森林。在去往人类村庄的过程中遇到了熊,与熊做了很多活动。然后产生了新的想法。
